LMU this Week

ATHLETICS | The men’s and women’s basketball teams have some time before returning to Gersten Pavilion to focus on wrapping up their classes. Once the semester comes to a close, all are welcomed to join the men’s team on Dec. 22 for Community Night against Cal State Fullerton. All tickets are $1, as well as $1 hot dogs for everyone, and the first 500 fans will receive a special LMU holiday ornament.

The women open West Coast Conference play with Saint Mary’s and Pacific on Dec. 28 and 30, respectively, to close out 2017. The men open WCC conference play on the road, but have a huge first week of 2018 as Santa Clara comes to the bluff on Jan. 4 for our Honoring Heroes Night; then the big showdown with Gonzaga on Jan. 6 as the No. 12-ranked Bulldogs come to Los Angeles for a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.

We need all Lions fans to help create a home-court advantage when the 2016-17 national runner-up Gonzaga comes to town. White rally towels will be distributed to the first 500 fans in attendance. Newly admitted students can experience the excitement of LMU basketball against perennial powerhouse Gonzaga for a discounted price. There will also be a halftime performance with spectacular trampoline stunts and breathtaking slam dunks from the TNT Dunk Squad.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Jan. 27, when the annual baseball Casino Night returns. The Casino Night is open to anyone interested in playing or watching; participants do not need to be LMU alumni. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the poker tournament beginning at 8 p.m. A silent auction and raffle will also be held throughout the night. The event features a hosted beer and wine bar, food, the poker tournament, and other entertainment games. In addition, LMU will celebrate the 2017 West Coast Conference baseball championship, with a ring ceremony to be held during Casino Night. The 2018 Lions will also be introduced, and fans will have the opportunity to purchase their 2018 LMU baseball season tickets.
