UNIVERSITY NEWS | Hear the roar of the home-court advantage.

Hear the roar of the Sixth Man.

What better way to start the new semester than gathering at Homecoming with alumni, faculty, staff and students to celebrate the Lion spirit?

“Homecoming is a 100-year annual tradition with American universities,” said Bill Husak, LMU’s athletic director. “It’s a time to welcome back alumni to experience again some of the memories they had when they were students, and to get to know current students, faculty and staff.”

The big day is Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. Roll your own grill over, and BYOB, food and fun to the designated section of Hannon Parking Lot that is reserved for this year’s Homecoming “tailgate.” Then watch the men’s basketball team take on the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference game. The Lions have an all-time winning record against the Pilots, 50-48, and won both games last season.

“This promises to be a competitive contest,” Husak said, “and we want to see our LMU fans come out and cheer the team to victory.”

This year’s Homecoming promises to be among the most festive we’ve seen, with Alumni Relations, Athletics, BCLA, Community Relations, Marketing and Communications and University Relations hosting the tailgate event. From 4 to 7 p.m., before the game, guests can reserve time to ice skate on a pop-up rink set up for the event, enjoy a T-shirt giveaway and a DJ. The Monster (Energy) Truck will also make an appearance at the tailgate to offer free samples to attendees.
