ATHLETICS | Get ready to spend the week at Page Stadium and Smith Field. Baseball is back from a weekend in Las Vegas to ring in the new season at home today, where the Lions host UC Irvine with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Following Tuesday’s matchup with the ’Eaters, LMU welcomes the Oregon Ducks to the bluff for a three-game weekend series. The Saturday game begins at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s matinee is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Softball is coming off two Monday wins, 4-1 over Utah and 5-2 over UC Santa Barbara, in Palm Springs, and get their first taste of home cooking with a pair of games on Thursday against Hawaii, starting at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The Lions will host two more on Sunday morning as Weber State comes to campus for games at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Basketball is in its final week of the regular season, and fans have one more opportunity to cheer the senior classes for the men’s and the women’s teams. Thursday night is women’s basketball’s last home game. Seniors Makenzie Cast and NK Ilang will be honored prior to playing their final home games as the Lions take on Santa Clara at 7 p.m. On the men’s side, Steven Haney Jr. will be recognized prior to the WCC Game of the Week against Pacific, a special 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
The hoops season will continue the following week as LMU travels to Nevada for the 10th year of the WCC’s Tournament in Las Vegas. Prior to the championships, fans are invited to a live Coaches Show featuring special guests including Mike Dunlap, Charity Elliott, Sami Strinz-Ward, and more. Just head to Santa Monica Brew Works on Monday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. to see all the action. The brewery will also offer $1 off beers for anyone wearing LMU gear.
Men’s golf is rallied together to make a huge push on Sunday to move up seven spots after the final round of play to place eighth in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. LMU’s Sunday surge came after a 9-under third round to put LMU at 295-298-279 – 872 for the tournament. The Lions will stay local and play at Westlake Village’s North Ranch Country Club for the Southwestern Invitational on Feb. 26-27.
