Athletics Search and Updates

ATHLETICS | The letter below was sent to the Athletics Department on Monday, April 2:

Dear Athletics Department Colleagues:

Welcome back from Easter Break. As we conclude the spring semester, we share updates concerning our athletics director search and organizational changes we will be making. Your continued dedication, expertise, and enthusiasm–along with the talents of our exceptional student-athletes–provide the foundation and the opportunity to continue to pursue our bold ambitions. Your ongoing support and insights will be critical as we move forward.

This week, we will begin a comprehensive, nationwide search for our next AD. We seek to recruit a proven, innovative leader who will honor our proud traditions, invigorate our loyal fans, and blaze a path toward athletics success.

Our timetable is ambitious: we intend to appoint a new AD before Dr. Bill Husak retires on July 27, 2018. Our search process and progress will remain confidential to the search committee. The committee will be chaired by Lynne Scarboro, executive vice president and chief administrative officer. Its members are listed below; we are grateful to each of them for undertaking this critical work. We have retained Parker Executive Search, a leading international firm with extensive experience with the nation’s top intercollegiate athletics programs, to ensure we attract the most-competitive candidate pool. We are confident that our search committee and search firm will conduct this process with care, integrity, and professionalism.

We are also changing the reporting structure for athletics. We recognize the significant impact of athletics across campus, across the nation, and the transformative potential of winning programs on our university’s strategic goals. Effective with the new AD’s start date, athletics will report directly to the president, with a dotted line to Student Affairs. This change ensures that we build upon our leadership of the past four decades while extending the university’s commitment to an integrated, collaborative athletics program.

Coordinated activities related to the search will begin soon. We encourage you to participate. Through the search process we will lionize our athletics success and build champions together.

Go Lions!
