LMU Wins Volleyball Tournament in Pennsylvania

ATHLETICS | The LMU women’s volleyball team was perfect in Philadelphia this weekend, picking up three wins to start their year and leave the City of Brotherly Love with the Hilton Penn’s Landing Temple Invitational Title. The Lions opened with a straight-set sweep over Rhode Island, before taking care of Hofstra and Temple. The early season road test continues, as the volleyball team travels to the Utah State Tournament this weekend.

The women’s soccer team returned to campus to win both of their Sullivan Field matches this past weekend. The Lions scored late in each game, topping Loyola-Chicago on Friday and Northeastern on Sunday behind Sarina Bolden’s 89th minute goal.

Bolden was one of three Lions, joining Maki Kono and Shelby Cormier, named to the All-Tournament Team from the opening weekend’s Outrigger Soccer Kickoff in Honolulu.

The men’s soccer team pulled off a comeback win on opening night to beat UC Riverside. The Lions dropped their Sunday game to St. John’s, finishing the homestand at 1-1.

The West Coast Conference announced its 2018 men’s and women’s cross-country preseason polls this week, putting the Lion women fourth with 58 total points, while the men landed in sixth place with 29 points. The 10 conference head coaches vote on the poll.

The new LMU Dad & Daughter program presented by the Little Lions Club provides opportunities for fathers and daughters to spend quality time together while attending various LMU women’s sporting events throughout the 2018-19 season. Dads can create memories, enjoy rare behind the scenes experiences, and share with their daughter the importance of exercise, good sportsmanship, and competitive team play.

LMU Athletics has unveiled new official social media handles with the aim of increasing consistency and fan experience. Users who followed the accounts previously have been automatically switched over to the new LMU Athletics and sport accounts. The process, which began with the launch of the new LMULions.com, aligns Athletics’ social media accounts with the LMU’s and fans will notice that handles and usernames are now cleaner and easier to search.
