Gryphon Circle Celebrates 50 Years

MISSION AND MINISTRY | More than 170 Gryphon Circle alumnae gathered to celebrate as LMU’s women in blue celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sunday with a brunch reception at Bird Nest following the 10 a.m. Mass in Sacred Heart Chapel.

Recognized by their blue cardigan sweaters, the women of Gryphon Circle enjoy a beautiful tradition and a rich heritage of “friendship, love and service” that dates back to the arrival of the first female students to take their place on the Del Rey campus from Marymount College in 1968.  Gryphons have dedicated themselves to the social justice concern of inner-city education and volunteer at local service placements such as Marycrest Manor in Culver City and St. Columbkille Elementary School and St. Margaret’s Center in Los Angeles.

Gryphon Circle is one of 10 service organizations at LMU and is the third-oldest among them.  The service organization community at LMU is dedicated to promoting both service and social justice. Moreover, the service organization community at LMU is unique among the 28 Jesuit universities in the United States.
