HURRICANE AND EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORTS

Donations and fundraising are the most effective assistance the LMU community can provide at this time in regards to hurricane and earthquake relief efforts in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico and Mexico. It is best that you make monetary contributions, no matter how small, so that agencies on the ground can use these funds to meet the needs of the victims of the hurricane in the most-effective way possible.

The following agencies are on the ground and are already providing aid to hurricane and earthquake victims:

United Way of Miami Dade supports local agencies that will provide for local community needs such as hotel vouchers, food pantries, and mental health services.
Catholic Charities of Galveston-Houston provides food, clothing and shelter to those most effected by Hurricane Harvey.
Catholic Relief Service is soliciting donations to respond to damage caused by Hurricanes Irma Jose and Maria for people in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and other Caribbean Islands.
UNICEF is supporting recovery services in the Mexican cities effected by the recent earthquakes.
Colegio San Ignacio, a high school in San Juan, is one of the Jesuit ministries of the Central Southern Province. Donations will support students, families and parishioners who have been effected by Hurricane Maria.
Americares is focusing its relief efforts on providing emergency medicine, supplies and medical outreach to residents of Puerto Rico.

LMU students from Houston organized a “Houston, we have a problem” art and music event last Friday, Sept. 22 that raised over $1,000.  Additionally, Campus Ministry will donate their collections from the 10 a.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Masses to relief efforts. If you would like to work on a fundraising event or for more information, please contact Pam Rector in the Center for Service and Action at pam.rector@lmu.edu.
