ATHLETICS | LMU men’s and women’s soccer needs your help: Athletics is holding a “Raise the Roar” for Sullivan Field and a new Sound System Renovation crowdfunding campaign. The addition of a new sound system will help further improve the fan and player experience on Sullivan Field. The new system will include a sound rack and 12 speakers — eight that will serve the fans in the bleachers and four that will provide sound on the field for the players.
The women’s and men’s basketball teams closed out the final week of the regular season with two wins, including final victories in front of the home crowd. Seniors Steven Haney Jr. on the men’s side, and Makenzie Cast and NK Ilang for the women were recognized in their final home games as Lions. The season now continues with a trip to the West Coast Conference Tournament. The Orleans Arena will host the tournament from March 1-6 as part of the Decade in the Desert, the 10th season the WCC Championships have been played in Las Vegas.
Awards are being announced for both basketball teams, as well, beginning with the unveiling of the conference’s all-academic performers. Steven Haney Jr. and Mattias Markusson have been named to the WCC Men’s Basketball All-Academic team, the league announced Wednesday. Erik Johansson joins his teammates as a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention Selection. On the women’s side, the WCC has recognized Andee Velasco, Cierra Belvin and Cheyanne Wallace as selections to the WCC’s Women’s Basketball All-Academic Teams.
Lions hit the sand last weekend as beach volleyball kicked off their 2018 season. The LMU beach volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of wins on Saturday, managing 5-0 victories over CSU Bakersfield and Vanguard from Huntington Beach, California. LMU is currently ranked No. 17 according to DiG Magazine and No. 20 according to the AVCA.
