A Winning Weekend for the Lions

ATHLETICS | Ranked in the top 50 in the nation, the LMU men’s tennis team had another perfect week picking up two West Coast Conference wins at home. LMU blanked Gonzaga, 4-0, on Saturday and then followed on Sunday by blanking Portland, also 4-0. Tom Lloyd’s Lions are winners of 12 straight and sit atop the conference standings with a 5-0 mark. The team hosts a nonconference match today against the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. at the LMU Tennis Center.

Softball played their first WCC series of the weekend, taking two of three from Pacific. LMU shut out the Tigers in Saturday’s first game before Pacific took the second-leg of the doubleheader. The Lions responded with 4-2 win in Sunday’s rubber match. Conference play continues this weekend with three games in Moraga against Saint Mary’s.

At Burns Aquatic Center, the women’s water polo team sent their seniors off with a pair of wins in their final home regular-season games. LMU topped Santa Clara on Friday, then followed with a win over Cal Baptist to move to 4-1 in GCC play. With two away games remaining on the schedule, the Lions will await final standings before hosting the GCC Championships at LMU on April 27-29 in a quest to take a conference title in their home pool.

Baseball returns to Page Stadium this weekend after heading to Santa Barbara today for a nonconference battle. The Lions host San Francisco for a three-game series with 6 p.m. starts set for Friday and Saturday, then a 1 p.m. first pitch Sunday to close things out.

Women’s Tennis returns home after splitting their Pacific Northwest road trip last weekend. The Lions welcome BYU to the LMU Tennis Center Friday at 1 p.m. then host San Diego at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
