Annual Staff BBQ Becomes a Silicon Beach Party

STAFF SENATE | It’s time again to gather in celebration of another successful academic year at LMU. The annual Staff Appreciation BBQ and Cart Parade takes place Friday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lawton Plaza. Be sure to bring your LMU OneCard, which is necessary for check-in and to receive a giveaway item.

This year’s theme highlights LMU’s unique position between the ocean and high-tech industry: We’re throwing a Silicon Beach Party. A prize will go to the staff member dressed in the most creative interpretation of the theme, but please no face paint or other costume makeup.

“The Staff Appreciation BBQ is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate all of the important work that we do as staff members,” said Fred Puza, Staff Senate president. “And, the cart parade gives us a chance to have a little fun and showcase our imagination.”

In addition to the food and games, there will be the annual cart parade – all departments that have a cart are invited to decorate their conveyance for the parade. Participants can vote for their favorite design with a donation of non-perishable food items, such as cereal bars, canned soup, breakfast cereal, pasta, crackers or dried fruit. The collected items will benefit the LMU Food Pantry.

But wait: There’s more. Each BBQ attendee will receive one raffle ticket, plus an additional raffle ticket for every five non-perishable food items contributed. Staff members do not need to be present to win.

So, sign up here and mark your calendars for the BBQ and cart parade.

The Staff Appreciation BBQ and Cart Parade is hosted by the LMU Staff Senate, which promotes the professional and personal development of staff members; serves in an advisory capacity to university leadership in the development, review and dissemination of university policies; and provides a forum for open communication and ongoing dialogue among the entire university community.
