Response to Findings on Sexual Abuse Within the Church

Dear LMU Community:

In response to the Pennsylvania Grand Jury’s findings on sexual abuse within the Church, Father Scott Santarosa, S.J., provincial of Jesuits West, encouraged us to share a letter in which he addresses the present situation in the Church and outlines protocols already in place for responding to reports of abuse by members of the Society of Jesus. The Most Reverend José H. Gomez, archbishop of Los Angeles, has similarly addressed the scandal in his recent statement and has made available resources for those wishing to report abuse.

As persons of faith, we will continue to support and pray for the survivors as we advocate for the accountability of the abusers and those who protected them. As the Church seeks reconciliation and renewal, we will strive for LMU to be an emblem of what the Church can be, a community where clergy and laity collaborate in service of faith through the promotion of justice.
