10-1 Record Is a First for the Men’s Basketball Program

ATHLETICS | LMU men’s basketball team has reached the 10-win mark in their first 11 games played for the first time in program history. The Lions picked up another road win on Saturday night, with an 85-58 victory over Portland State. The team returns to Gersten Pavilion on Wednesday night for a matchup with Boise State. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive an exclusive LMU holiday beanie. All general admission tickets are only $1, as well as $1 hot dogs.

The women’s basketball team also enjoyed a perfect week, winning their game against Long Beach State on Friday night. The Lions are now in Puerto Rico for the week, playing games in the Puerto Rico Classic. LMU takes on Indiana on Wednesday, South Dakota on Thursday, and Grambling State on Friday as part of the tournament. Two student-athletes were named All-Americans this past week.  Tess Reid has been named to an American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I All-America Team for women’s volleyball. In the pool, Blazo Mitrovic wrapped up his freshman year awards list with a spot on the ACWPC Division I All-America team as a Honorable Mention selection.

The 2019 softball schedule has been announced. The season begins in Fullerton on Feb. 9, and the Lions return to Smith Field on Valentine’s Day. LMU hosts 32 games this season, highlighted by the annual LMU Tournament.

Mark your calendars: LMU’s annual Salute to Service basketball game is a month away when the Lions host St. Mary’s on Jan. 12. LMU Athletics is calling on Lion Nation to help send military families to the game for free. LMU Athletics is selling Salute to Service tickets for just $8 and every ticket purchased will be donated to active, retired and reserved military personnel and their families. With a goal of 500 of these special tickets set for the game, LMU Athletics administrative staff members and basketball coaches have joined the cause.

LMU men’s basketball team is looking for parents and their babies to participate in the second annual Diaper Derby. At the Jan. 5 game, crawling babies will have the opportunity to race across the court for the grand prize of a gift card to Alejos Restaurant for their parents or guardians and LMU baby gear for themselves.

LMU continues the celebration of its incredible athletics legacy by introducing our Athletics Hall of Fame Class for 2019. The LMU Athletics Hall of Fame Class will be inducted on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Roski Dining Room at 6:30 p.m. following the men’s basketball game against BYU. The West Coast Conference matchup will start at 1 p.m. Some of the greatest names in LMU sports history compromise the class, including coaches and record holders from six sports.
