LMU Celebrates César Chavez

MISSION AND MINISTRY | The Office of Campus Ministry and its liturgy team prepared a beautiful interfaith prayer service to celebrate the life and impact of labor leader and civil rights activist César Chavez. The LMU community gathered Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at noon in Sacred Heart Chapel to honor Chavez’s legacy.

The service was highlighted by a welcome address by President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., an opening prayer led by Professor Amir Hussein, and personal reflections delivered by Professor Ceclia González-Andrieu and LMU student, Carla Arellano ’21.

At the conclusion of the prayer service, Allan Deck, S.J., offered a prayer of blessing for all of LMU’s Facilities Management personnel and the Sodexo workers who were present.

Inspired by Chavez’s witness and dedication to the rights of laborers, the Office of Chicano Latino Student Services sponsored a luncheon following the prayer service for LMU’s food service, maintenance and Facilities Management personnel who generously serve the needs of the university community.
