2 Lions Earn National Honors

ATHLETICS | The national recognition continues for LMU baseball players as senior pitcher Codie Paiva and junior infielder/outfielder Trevin Esquerra were named to the 2019 ABCA/Rawlings Division I West All-Region Second Team. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.

After 11 seasons as the head coach of the LMU baseball program, which culminated in a 2019 WCC tournament championship and an NCAA tournament regional appearance, Jason Gill has accepted the same position at USC, becoming the Trojan’s seventh head coach since 1930. Under Gill’s guidance, LMU has accumulated 64 All-WCC selections, one WCC regular season title, one WCC tournament title, one NCAA regional, four freshmen All-Americans, one Collegiate Baseball All-American, four WCC Defensive Player of the Year, two WCC Pitcher of the Year, four ABCA All-West Region selections, two WCC Freshman of the Year, 35 Academic All-Conference selections, an Academic All-District selection, 31 players drafted in the MLB Draft and has played for the WCC championship six times.

Each week throughout the summer, LMU Athletics will announce a top highlight from the 2018-19 school year. The first memory on the list featured four head coaches, and their award-winning and milestone-earning seasons.

Three fall sports programs announced their schedules for the upcoming season last week. The women’s volleyball team’s early stretch of the season consists of several national tournaments. The men’s soccer team will play their first six games at home to open 2019, while the women’s soccer team will play nine times on Sullivan Field this season.

The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators announced Wednesday afternoon at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics that LMU won silver in Group II for season ticket sales campaign. Highlights of the campaign included lower pricing, jersey giveaways through the renewal incentive plan, season holder gift, elevated mini plans, and of course, fan first pricing at concessions and free beer for each season ticket holder.

Summer camps are underway for various sports. The LMU Camps site allows parents to browse the various camps offered at LMU, learn details of each, and register your son or daughter for their favorite LMU camps.
