Rules of the Road for Authorized Cart Drivers

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY | With the start of the new academic year upon us, Public Safety strongly encourages all certified cart drivers to refresh themselves on the following rules of the (LMU campus) road:

  • Only those authorized and trained by Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) are permitted to drive carts on campus.
  • Do not drive in pedestrian walkways (such as dismount zones, Palm Walk, and Alumni Mall) unless it is an emergency or if the cart is specifically required to conduct work in that particular area (in which case, a slow speed must be maintained). This rule is applicable throughout the year, including the summer and holiday break periods.
  • Keep a safe distance from pedestrians and other vehicles.
  • Stay hands free — no eating/drinking/phone use.
  • Use hand signals for turns and stops.
  • During move-in days, only those vehicles with special authorization may drive through the housing pedestrian walkways. Said vehicles must keep their emergency signals/lights on at all times, and drive safely and slowly.
