2019 Annual Kristallnacht Commemoration “Human Rights and Refugee Policies: The Voyage of the SS St. Louis”

LMU BELLARMINE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS | The Jewish Studies Program at LMU invites you to attend the annual Kristallnacht Commemoration. This year’s event will feature a candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of the Night of Broken Glass and a screening of “Complicit,” a documentary film that blends drama, survivor interviews, and actual footage to tell the story of the Roosevelt Administration’s refusal to grant safe haven to Jewish refugees aboard the SS St. Louis. Following the film, there will be a discussion and Q & A with Robert M. Krakow, creator and producer of “Complicit,” and Thomas Jacobson, surviving passenger of the SS St. Louis. A student-curated exhibition, in collaboration with the David Labkovski Project, will be on display showcasing Holocaust art and information.

The Annual Kristallnacht Commemoration is hosted by the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts and the Jewish Studies Program at Loyola Marymount University. The event is generously co-sponsored by Loyola Law School, the CSJ Center for Reconciliation and Justice, the History Department, and the Theological Studies Department.
