Lions Beat Southern Utah

ATHLETICS | Coming off a week between games, the LMU men’s basketball team outshot Southern Utah to earn a home win in their first game back from the Bahamas. After the Thunderbirds shot over 70 percent in their previous game, LMU held Southern Utah to 34 percent shooting (16-for-47) on Sunday, giving the Lions a 61-51 win. It will be a quick turnaround for LMU, who will board a plane to face unbeaten and nationally ranked Colorado on Wednesday night in Boulder. The game will air on the Pac-12 Networks at 7 p.m. PST.

The LMU women’s basketball team put up a fight against Georgetown in the opening day of the LMU Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, but the Lions fell to the Hoyas, 64-53. LMU closed out the tournament on Saturday, dropping the match against tournament champions Yale, 81-65. The Lions will host CSUN on Wednesday a special noon game with hundreds of elementary school students in attendance.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams will be at home for a doubleheader on Dec. 7. The women take on Cal State San Bernardino at 2 p.m. at Hank’s House, followed by the men hosting Grambling State at 7 p.m. The first 200 fans at the men’s game will receive a special holiday shirt, and the return of the Teddy Bear Toss will occur at halftime. Bring a stuffed animal to throw on the court at halftime of the men’s game to donate to a children’s charity.

The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team closed out it is season against San Diego Tuesday evening, while losing to the Toreros, 3-1. LMU finished the year with 15 wins.
