Scott Etches Name in Record Book

ATHLETICS LMU junior Eli Scott has been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Scott had a record-breaking week, capped by the first triple-double performance in program history in Saturday’s win over Grambling State. Scott averaged a double-double on the week with 26.0 points per game, 11.5 rebounds per game, and 7.0 assists per game to move into a tie with Wyking Jones for 17th-most double-doubles in program history with 10.

The men’s basketball week started with a road battle against No. 20 Colorado on Wednesday night. The Lions led much of the game against the Pac-12 Buffaloes, led by Scott’s career-high 31 points on a career-best 12 field goals. The Lions ultimately lost the near-upset in the final minutes, but Scott finished with 10 rebound to complete the double-double, game-highs in both categories and scored 48.4 percent of the team’s points, while adding two steals.

LMU then hosted Grambling State and benefited from Scott’s first half facilitation to topple the Tigers. Scott entered halftime with 11 assists on the 18 made LMU baskets, and was a rebound shy of hitting a first half double-double. The Lions shot 69.2 percent (18-for-26) from the field in the first half behind the newly-appointed point guard’s ability to find his teammates. After taking just two shots in the first half, Scott started looking for his own scoring in the second half and went 7-for-9 from the field, and 1-for-1 from long range to finish with a game-high 21 points. Scott’s 13 assists are tied for 10th in program history. LMU hosts Prairie View A&M this Friday at 7 p.m.

The Lions women’s basketball team played a tight game against CSUN on Wednesday, but the Lions fell at the end, 56-54, while Jasmine Jones had her third double-double of the season. The Lions opened up the game against the Matadors in front of 1,670 people in Gersten Pavilion on Education Day. Several elementary schools from around the area came to support the Lions. LMU put on a dominating performance Saturday afternoon, as the Lions beat Cal State San Bernardino, 94-46, in Gersten Pavilion, while standout Jasmine Jones earned her fourth double-double of the season and several Lions scored career highs. The Lions will head to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to take on Ball State, New Mexico and Providence College starting on Wednesday Dec. 18, 2019.

LMU women’s volleyball players Savannah Slattery and Tess Reid were named to the 2019 All-West Coast Conference Volleyball First Team, while Emme Walters was named 2019 WCC All-Freshman, announced by the conference last Monday. Slattery and Reid were among only 16 WCC players to be named to the All-First Team. The seniors were both team and conference leaders all season. Newcomer Emme Walters earned her All-Freshman title after posting a .348 hitting percentage, the best on the team, while going .296 in conference play, making the first-year student a conference leader. Walters totaled 115 kills on the season for the Lions.
