Lions Face No. 1-Ranked Gonzaga

ATHLETICS | Gersten Pavilion is the place to be on Saturday afternoon, where LMU men’s basketball team, 1-1 in conference play, has their eyes set on knocking off the No. 1 team in the country in Hank’s House. The Spectrum (home of the Lakers) will broadcast the game that tips off at 1 p.m., but the excitement starts earlier: From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. LMU fans can gather in the Burns Recreation Center parking lot for a pre-game tailgate with 97.1 AMP Radio along with a food truck and tailgate games presented by on campuses Mane Entertainment. Limited tickets are still available.

The men’s team won their first conference game of the season and opened 2020 on the right foot. LMU knocked down free throws late, controlled the ball, and benefited from a 10-0 second half run to beat San Diego, 64-58, in the first game of the new year. LMU followed that game with a road test at BYU on Saturday, falling to the Cougars, 63-38.

LMU’s women’s basketball returns home for a pair of games as well after coming up short on the road at Pacific and at Saint Mary’s last weekend, despite Chelsey Gipson tying her career-high with 27 points against the Gaels. The Lions host San Francisco on Thursday night, before playing the second leg of Saturday’s doubleheader against Santa Clara. Admission is free into the women’s game on Saturday for fans with tickets to the men’s game against Gonzaga earlier in the afternoon.
