Inauguration Day Teach-In

Dear LMU Community:

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to take part in LMU’s 2021 Inauguration Day Teach-In, organized by Faculty Senate President Dorothea Herreiner in very short order. After the inaugural events in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 20 at 9 a.m. PST, Kimberly West-Faulcon, the James P. Bradley Chair in Constitutional Law and professor at Loyola Law School, kicks off a day of panels and breakout rooms for discussions that will bring knowledge, experience, and wisdom together. Participants can learn more and register here  for what promises to be a dynamic day.

Our talented faculty and staff are in high demand, showcasing their expertise and scholarship with impact. With thought leadership in political science, economics, history, biology, business, and more, LMU subject-matter experts are sought by decision-makers and national media, including Politico, The New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and many other prominent news outlets and think tanks.

We are utilizing our pedagogical might to inform our students and give them well-rounded, factual, and ethical perspectives on the events and policies that brought our nation to this moment, and where we hope or expect to go from here. The horrific scenes we witnessed during the deadly mayhem at the Capitol on Jan. 6 didn’t start there and most likely won’t end there either. We are blessed by the presence of an engaged faculty that help us make sense of these unusual times.

Given the historic nature of the upcoming presidential inauguration, and the prominence of our faculty experts who are sharing their time and energy for this program, I wholeheartedly encourage our community to partake in this teach-in opportunity. I thank our faculty in advance for their consideration and flexibility by allowing our students to take part as their class schedules permit.

Sincerely,

Thomas Poon, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President and Provost
