Enrollment Management Continues DEI Focus

ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT | Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts continue to be an important focus for Enrollment Management, along with other units across the Loyola Marymount University campus.

Admission outreach that supports these efforts is crucial to developing and implementing a comprehensive recruitment strategy designed to increase Black undergraduate student enrollment. That effort complements the university’s efforts to become an anti-racist institution. The position of an assistant director of admission will require collaboration with LMU colleagues responsible for recruiting Latino/a and Asian American and Pacific Islander undergraduates, and other underrepresented groups.

Ryan Mason, who will serve as the assistant director of admission for diversity, inclusion and outreach, begins his responsibilities April 12. He will report to Radia Alouache, senior director of admission, and partner with the Black LMU community to collaborate around recruitment opportunities and programs.

Mason earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and his master’s degree in education from California State University, Northridge, and is completing his doctorate in education at USC. For over a decade, he has committed himself to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at Cal State Northridge. In his most recent appointment as program director of the Black Male Scholars program, he focused on Black student recruitment and success.

Mason adds, “As an advocate for equity and inclusion, I’ve served various roles promoting the academic, cultural, and social consciousness of Black students. Over the last 10 years at California State University, Northridge, my efforts focused on creating an inclusive and equitable campus through advocacy education, research backed theoretical frameworks, and support services. I’m dedicated to historically marginalized groups and their access to higher education and am looking forward to devoting my efforts to representing and advocating for students as well as building strategic diversity recruitment for LMU.”
