Westchester 4th of July Parade Returns

UNIVERSITY NEWS | Nothing says “we’re back” like a good, old-fashioned parade.

Honoring “Our National Treasures,” the 21st annual Westchester Fourth of July Parade will be on Sunday, July 4, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Loyola Boulevard from Manchester Boulevard to the Loyola Marymount University gate.

LMU, a perennial participant, will again be represented by the women’s and men’s basketball teams, offering a chance to cheer on both squads following successful seasons. The balance of the LMU volunteer field is still taking shape, and those interested in joining can contact Fred Puza, associate director of community relations, at fred.puza@lmu.edu. Colleges, schools or departments are also welcomed to get involved.

Since 2000, the LAX Coastal Fourth of July Parade, sponsored by the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, has brought several thousand neighbors to the hear bands play, view floats, see dancing troupes and partake in the patriotic festivities. This year marks the second Home Decorating Contest, with residents invited to decorate their homes, and businesses their storefronts. Those interested in participating should have their decorations in place by Thursday, July 1, and email photos to laxcoastalonparade@gmail.com. Guidelines can be found here.

Parade organizers said that “while planning and logistics are still underway, this scaled-back parade will focus on local entries and longtime parade favorites, as well as serve as an opportunity to recognize our health care first responders and nonprofits who have done so much good this past year.

“Following health and safety protocols, we’ll be working with our community partners to ensure best practices that promote social distancing and face masks for our spectators.”
