CAMPUS SAFETY SERVICES | The department that oversees LMU’s physical well-being is getting a new name: LMU Campus Safety Services. This name change more clearly reflects the broad range of support and services provided by the department.
Public Safety will remain the name of the patrol, dispatch, and investigations arm of the department, responsible for the campus security initiatives 24/7/365 traditionally associated with Public Safety. Campus Safety Services will also encompass Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance and Administration, and Security Technology and Access Control.
“The decision to change the department name was only made after much consideration for who we are as a department, and what we offer the LMU community,” said Devra Schwartz, vice president of Campus Safety and Security. “Significant feedback and guidance was provided by our Public Safety Advisory Committee, who shared that they previously were unaware that our department had so much depth and responsibility. We are pleased that with this new, more all-encompassing branding, we’ll be better equipped to educate our students, staff, faculty, and community members about how we can serve and support them.”
The name change is effective immediately, with efforts underway to replace outdated logos, equipment, and more. For more information, please visit safety.lmu.edu.
