20th Fourth of July Parade Comes to Westchester

The 20th edition of Westchester’s Fourth of July parade will roll up Loyola Boulevard, from Westchester Park to the LMU entrance, with 30 participants, including floats, marching bands, and community service groups. Loyola Marymount University will present a float along with its involvement in the organizing of the event.

“We are thrilled to participate in the Westchester/Playa Fourth of July parade,” said Fred Puza, associate director of community relations. “We’re an active neighbor and we’re pleased to be out with our neighbors on this patriotic day.” Approximately 3,000 people will line the street for the 11 a.m. start of the parade.

LMU’s float will portray this year’s theme, “America, Better Together,” with a large-scale puzzle, where the pieces of the community fit together to build a healthy neighborhood. Accompanying the float will be the women’s and men’s basketball teams, and Iggy the Lion will lead the cheers.

The elected officials who have been invited to the Independence Day celebration include Rep. Maxine Waters, State Sen. Ben Allen, and Councilmember Mike Bonin.

The parade, presented by the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, is assisted by LMU, which supplies the bleachers, supports the post-parade cleanup and provides a parking lot.
