Center for Ignatian Spirituality, De Colores Celebrate Anniversaries

MISSION AND MINISTRY | This year, the LMU community celebrates two important anniversaries, one for the Center for Ignatian Spirituality (CIS) and the other for the De Colores Program in Campus Ministry. CIS and the De Colores program have enriched our community in so many ways over the years.

Since its founding in 2000, CIS has served the pastoral and spiritual needs of our LMU faculty and staff by providing accompaniment through spiritual direction and the giving of the Spiritual Exercises. In addition, CIS has offered an array of experiences that have encouraged deeper reflection and discernment as inspired by the tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Similarly, Campus Ministry’s De Colores program has touched and transformed the lives of students from its inception. Who would have imagined that Campus Ministry’s first De Colores delegation back in 1985 would have had such a lasting impact? For 35 years, De Colores weekends have sought to provide young Lions with an opportunity for authentic encounters with self, others, and God. These monthly faith-based, service-immersion weekends are grounded in the values of accompaniment, solidarity, and community. This year, LMU Lions continue to take part in delegations to Tijuana, Mexico, but they do so by way of virtual modalities.

As in past years, De Colores weekends provide students with an opportunity to hear stories of resilience from community leaders who serve hundreds of their neighbors each week through a variety of educational and vocational classes organized at the El Florido IV community center. Additionally, students participating this year will learn about the realities of migration during the COVID-19 pandemic from a representative at Casa Del Migrante, an organization that provides basic human services to deportees, displaced persons, migrants in transit and refugees.

As LMU hosts #OneLMUDrive’s “Day of Giving” on Sept. 23, please consider making a donation to support the ongoing works of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality and Campus Ministry’s De Colores program as they celebrate their respective anniversaries this year.

Gifts made to Mission and Ministry will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000, thanks to the generosity of Lucy ’88 and Steve Peters ’88, Regent! To make a donation, please click here.
