“Finding Peace” – An Ignatian Digital Retreat for LMU Faculty and Staff

How can we find peace in our daily lives, when so much is uncertain and unfamiliar? What insights and resources can Ignatian spirituality offer in this search for peace?

The Center for Ignatian Spirituality invites the LMU community to experience its annual faculty and staff retreat in a new way this year. “Finding Peace” is a digital Ignatian retreat with live resources, small-group connection, and real-time accompaniment offered to you wherever you find yourself, far or near. Facilitated by Randy Roche, S.J., Wayne Negrete, S.J., and Kat Brown, this retreat is an opportunity to reflect on Ignatian themes as they relate to our present moment. We hope you will join us for this opportunity to pause, reflect, and search for peace alongside your colleagues.

FAQs:
What can I expect from this digital retreat?
You can expect to be provided with physical and digital materials, including texts, presentations, meditations, and prayers to accompany LMU faculty and staff in their spiritual journeys. The retreat will open at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and close at noon on Sunday, but the majority of that time will be self-paced and self-guided. Retreat facilitators will be available throughout the retreat, even while retreatants are not in live gatherings. Registrants will also receive a package of physical materials for the retreat ahead of time.

Will I be on Zoom the whole weekend?
No! Most materials, including presentations, will be available digitally at specific time periods, to be accessed when it is most helpful for the retreatant. Once or twice a day, retreatants will join in small group discussions with a consistent group for 15-30 minutes over Zoom, for a maximum of one hour a day. In addition to the presentations, ideas and resources for self-guided reflection activities will be provided.

Does it cost anything?
No, there is no cost to participants. However, space is limited and resources are committed in advance, so we ask that you only register if you are able to participate fully (Friday evening – Sunday midday, including three-four brief live sessions during that period). If your availability changes, please notify us at ignacio@lmu.edu as soon as possible so we can make your spot available to someone else.

Who is this retreat for? Do I need to be Catholic?
While this retreat is rooted in Ignatian spirituality and incorporates prayers and texts from the Christian tradition, the retreat is open to all. Individuals of many faith commitments (and no faith commitments) have participated in past retreats and have found the Ignatian way of reflecting and discerning to be spiritually fruitful. If you have any questions about this, please contact Father Randy Roche at rroche@lmu.edu and we would be happy to speak to you in more detail.

What if I have roommates or family members living with me?
You are still invited and encouraged to participate. We have designed this digital retreat to minimize synchronous meetings and the need to be on screen, so you can tailor your reflection periods to your own unique schedule and needs. We will provide ideas and resources for ways to find or create reflective spaces in your own environments, as well. As is our custom, partners or spouses are also invited to participate at no additional cost.

Have a question that’s not answered here or want to talk to someone about this retreat? Contact the Center for Ignatian Spirituality at ignacio@lmu.edu and we’ll connect with you right away.
