First Year Retreat Heads to the Mountains

MISSION AND MINISTRY | First Year Retreat is Campus Ministry’s contribution to the university’s efforts, along with Student Affair’s First Year Experience and Academic Division’s First Year Seminar, to make the transition to university life productive and transformative.

First-year students and sophomores can now register for First Year Retreat (FYR), happening Sept. 17-19 in Running Springs, California. FYR is a light-hearted and relaxing atmosphere and offers a great opportunity for first-year and sophomore students to meet each other, form new friendships, reflect together, and look forward to their time at LMU.

“Our new students are looking for a place to deepen their faith, to search for answers to the bigger questions in life, and to start mapping out their hopes and dreams for their time at LMU,” said Victoria Zobrist, the director of FYR. “First Year Retreat is the perfect start to any Lion’s LMU journey.”

Following the first few weeks back on campus, students are invited to enjoy a weekend escape into the mountains with Campus Ministry where they can reflect on their academic experience so far and begin to form meaningful relationships.

“They will meet other students, begin friendships that will last for years, and start to establish a place of belonging,” said Zobrist. “Retreatants will spend time in small groups sharing their stories, reflecting on their beliefs, and discerning who they want to become at LMU.”

Many students and alumni have described the friends they’ve met during these retreats as ones they’ve kept their entire college career and beyond. FYR is the perfect way for students to begin their time at LMU; click here to register for First Year Retreat.
