Spirit Moves!

MISSION AND MINISTRY | The LMU community is invited to attend a webinar titled SPIRIT MOVES: The Life and Work of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, at 2 p.m.

This theatre piece weaves together the stories of ten Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange from their first call to serve “the neighbor” through moments of joy, despair, and discovery as they follow the Spirit in dedication to service, social justice and community.

The Sisters profiled have diverse ministries and were selected because they are living out the CSJ charism “that all may be one.” Participants will hear about the vocation and charism of ten courageous women: Sr. Roseanne Cecillon, Sr. Jeanne Fallon, Sr. Elena Jaramillo, Sr. Sharon Fritsch, Sr. Rebecca Rodriguez, Sr. Dorothy Anne Yee, Sr. Jo Ann Eannareno, Sr. Christine Ray, Sr. Louise Ann Micek, and Sr. Rose Marie Redding.

This performance coincides with LMU’s celebration of the Year of St. Joseph, announced by Pope Francis in recognition of the 150th anniversary of Joseph being named patron of the Universal Church, and the Year of Ignatius, marking the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius. The stories have been selected from an oral history project co-sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange and the CSJ Center for Reconciliation and Justice at Loyola Marymount University directed by Judith Royer, CSJ.

Interviews with the sisters were written into first person narratives by playwrights Doris Baizley, Linda Bannister, Jami Brandli, Molly Cookson, Catharine Dada, Mary O’Malley, and Adriana Sevahn Nichols and were edited for this presentation by Doris Baizley.

Spirit Moves! will be performed by esteemed LA actors: Christine Avila, Catharine Dada,  Julianne Homokay,  Karen Huie, Zilah Mendoza, Sarita Ocón, Mary O’Malley, Rose Portillo, Annabella Price, and Beth Ruscio.
