ACADEMIC AFFAIRS | Mozilla Developer Roadshow, a traveling technology event series, is making its next stop at Loyola Marymount University. This year’s Los Angeles event, before it moves on to New York then Europe and Asia, features Nonny de la Peña, a visionary storyteller widely known as the “Godmother of VR.”
Mozilla hosts the Roadshow to showcase new ways that the web democratizes opportunities for developers and digital creators. As the event’s location host, LMU and the Office of the Provost invite LMU faculty, staff and students to learn and network with the local tech community. The Roadshow happens April 23, 2019, at the LMU Playa Vista Campus. Registration is free and can be accessed here.
De la Peña continues to redefine the standard for how creativity and technology can work together to empower people to tell their own stories and create life-changing experiences. Her Emblematic Group has successfully developed REACH in WebVR, a web-based platform that makes VR storytelling technology accessible to non-developers. Along with the presentation, the Emblematic team will walk through a demonstration of their product and answer questions during the social hour to share their success and challenges of developing VR technology for the web.
The doors open at 1:30 p.m. with a welcome from the Provost and presentations beginning at 2. The REACH demonstration will begin at 2:30 and the social hour will start at 3.
De la Peña will be joined by Rick Adams, mixed reality producer and senior reporter at Spectrum News 1; Meghan McWilliams, associate development director at Emblematic; Chaitanya Shah, a technologist and futurist at Emblematic; Cedric Gamelin, an award-winning producer and storyteller; and Dan Brown, senior marketing manager at Mozilla.
