ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT | New Student Orientation is an exciting and welcoming introduction for incoming students to Loyola Marymount University’s campus and culture. It is truly a memorable impression for first-year, transfer, international and graduate students to the lively spirit of LMU; as well as an informative experience filled with valuable information to help ensure a smooth transition to the LMU community.

As orientation plays a vital role in LMU’s admission process, a new director position has been created in Enrollment Management under the leadership of Vice Provost of Enrollment Management Maureen Weatherall. Along with a committee-based approach, this new dedicated role will collaborate with respective constituents and be empowered to lead the team and execute on the committee’s strategic vision, while providing year-round continuity in developing meaningful relationships and onboarding students in a more effective and comprehensive way.

The director will manage all facets of the orientation process for all undergraduate and graduate students, and be responsible for assessing, creating and implementing programs to support a seamless, successful transition to the university. The director will be the lead planner in identifying the needs of new students and implementing strategic plans into current and new programs.

After a nationwide search lead by Tom Gutto, director of transfer admission and enrollment services and interim assistant vice provost of financial aid, the search committee named Julia Stanton as director of orientation for LMU. Julia was an associate director for orientation programs at USC, and joined LMU in June. At USC, Stanton coordinated 15 on-campus orientation programs annually for more than 4,000 first-year students and more than 1,500 family members and guests. Additionally, she managed offsite orientation programs in Chicago, Dallas, Paris, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Prior to that, Stanton served as a resident director at Biola University, overseeing a housing complex of 300 students. She earned her B.A. in English literature from Wheaton College and her master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University.
