LMU Student Leads Reflection at Evensong

MISSION AND MINISTRY | Faculty and staff are invited to encourage students to participate in “Evensong of Gratitude,” a liturgical experience for students.  Recently, LMU senior Gaby Guerrero delivered a powerful reflection at the LMU student virtual prayer service on Sunday, Sept. 27.  This marked the first time a student has been called upon to give a reflection and there are more to come in the weeks and months ahead.

“I am excited even though we aren’t having a typical Mass,” Guerrero said.  “God is still here and the Spirit is working by allowing students and women the opportunity to preach.”

Guerrero reflected on the Gospel of Matthew 2:28-32, “The Parable of the Two Sons.” She connected the Scripture to the current pandemic, the racial and social injustices the world today.

In her reflection, Guerrero articulated that although this may indeed be a scary time, we are not alone and each one of us is called to live out God’s mission.  “If we can dedicate ourselves to work that fulfills, that recognizes the dignity of others, that draws us closer to God and each other, we will get there,” Guerrero said. “My prayer is that fear does not rule you, but rather each one of us is called by God’s love to use the unique talents God placed within us to make this world a more just and loving place.”

Evensong is open to all LMU students every Sunday online at 4 p.m. Click here for the link for the Oct. 18 service: https://leo.lmu.edu/event/6489528.
