ACADEMIC AFFAIRS | The Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education announced the following:

Please welcome Dr. Anthony Perron, Associate Professor of History, as the new Director of the University Core Curriculum, effective August 15, 2019. Professor Perron has been functioning as interim Director of the University Core Curriculum since August 15, 2018. In this role, he has been collaboratively leading the Core´s timely review, as well as clarifying and updating Core guidelines and policies for University Core Curriculum Committee approval among many other tasks and responsibilities.

Dr. Perron earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago. His scholarship focuses on medieval legal history with a particular emphasis on northern Europe. He is presently engaged in a research project on the regulation of cemeteries in church law in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Since his arrival at LMU in 2002, he has been teaching medieval European history and premodern world history in the Department of History and First Year seminars in the Core Curriculum. Professor Perron has also served the University, the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts, and the Department of History as Chair of the Academic Planning and Review Committee, a member of the BCLA Curriculum and Assessment Committee and the BCLA Faculty Development Committee, and as Associate Chair of the Department of History.  Besides teaching First Year seminars, Professor Perron has also contributed to the Core Curriculum as member of the UCCC´s Explorations subcommittee. Dr. Perron is an example of LMU´s teacher-scholar model.

I would like to thank the members of the University Core Curriculum Committee, the Core-4 group, and the Faculty Senate who served on the selection committee and provided valuable input.

Sincerely,

José I. Badenes, S.J., Ph.D.
